If you live in Mallorca and don't understand your electricity bill, you're not alone!

The tariff structures, contract terms, taxes and duties and payment terms can be confusing, especially when compared to Germany. Here are a few important things you should know:

Firstly, it's important to know that in Spain, the electricity provider and the electricity supplier are often two different companies that have different roles. The electricity provider produces or buys the electricity and sells it to the electricity supplier, who then delivers it to the end customer. This can be different from Germany, where it is often the same company.

Secondly, in Spain you pay a basic fee for the power you use. This means that you not only pay for the energy you actually use, but also for the provision of your electricity connection. This is different from Germany, where the basic fee is normally included in the electricity price.

Thirdly, there are several tariff structures in Spain, depending on when you use the most electricity. There are tariffs for basic consumption, tariffs for night and weekend consumption and time-controlled tariffs. This is different from Germany, where there is usually only one tariff.

Fourthly, taxes and levies in Spain are higher than in Germany. This can mean that your electricity bill will be higher than you expected. It is therefore important to know your own consumption in order to better understand the bill.

Finally, electricity prices on the market in Spain change frequently. This means that it is advisable to regularly compare suppliers to see if there is a better tariff that suits your needs.
